Antiques Roadshow in the BBC's premier antiques programme. A travelling caravan of antiques experts (on- and off-screen), presenter and support staff set up shop in some prominent location in a town or city (cathedral, town hall, public assembly hall etc.) and invite the public to bring in antiques for identification and valuation. The public assemble in hordes. The emphasis in the programmes is on high quality antiques, with valuations often running into thousands of pounds, and antiques of significant historical value are sometime uncovered, for example, one of the earliest known English examples of Delft pottery.
This week, Antiques Roadshow is at Crathes Castle in Aberdeenshire where treasures turning up include a stunning Cartier clock, a tiny bowl with a giant price tag and a royal portrait that is not all that it seems. And there are connections to showbiz royalty too – a hat once given to Ronald Reagan and a walking stick belonging to Scottish music hall star Sir Harry Lauder.

Day and night for one long summer we meet the people who make the station work. Central Station has long been Scotland’s busiest; it’s the Northern terminus of the West Coast Main Line from London and the starting point for travel to hundreds of stations in mainland Britain. Over the decades the station has knitted itself into the lives of many people. For generations of Glasgow folk, particularly those that work here, Central station has become part of the family. In this final episode the TRSMT music festival revellers descend on the station late at night, a special guest
enjoys the London commute on the Caledonian Sleeper and we meet the oldest and youngest train cleaners in the station. Ex British Transport Police officer, Bob takes a walk back in time to the 80’s and we find out what’s it’s like to police the station today with Sergeant McWhirter. Tattoo artist Lorraine compares working under the Heilanman’s umbrella today with the past and a street art mystery is revealed in the Arches bar. Staff deal with disruptions caused by overhead line problems and Drew reflects on how special his town within a city is and what it means to the people of Glasgow.
