Season 2, Episode 10 –
Of all the mammals admitted to the National Widllife Rescue centre, otters are the most difficult to rehabilitate and return to the wild. This is because an otter cub will stay with its mother in the wild for as long as 18 months. If cubs are brought in as tiny orphans, the rewilding process will take just as long. Cubs also need pals, and that’s a problem for newly admitted orphans Chubb and Pike, who just can’t seem to get on.

Season 2, Episode 08 –
Every summer, the Wildlife Rescue Centre sees the admission of many orphaned roe deer fawns. However, this year the roe fawns are joined by an orphan belonging to a different species – a young fallow deer with some nasty wounds on his legs. It puts extra pressure on acting head of large mammals, April, who needs to train up Juanita and the other wildlife assistants in the art of deer rearing. The team name the orphaned fallow Snow Drop, and with his leg wounds neatly healed by vet Liam, he is relocated to a centre in the south of England, where a larger group of fallow deer is already preparing for life in the wild.

It’s not every day that the National Wildlife Rescue Centre finds itself taking care of a beaver, but with these mammals now reintroduced to the wild in Scotland and thriving, it’s not surprising to find one admitted. They also happen to be one of the favourite animals of acting head of large mammals, April, so when one arrives after being caught in a sluice gate it’s a good day indeed. The beaver is uninjured, so after blood tests and a thorough examination it is returned to the wild and released with the help of beaver expert Dr Roisin Campbell-Parker.

Season 2, Episode 04 –
Head of birds Lorraine is one of the most experienced and dedicated members of the SSPCA rescue centre staff, hand-rearing hundreds of baby nestlings and nursing dozens of injured birds back to health each year. But this is a year like no other, and in mid-March, the lives of the centre staff are turned upside down by the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic.
Lorraine is forced to shield at home, but she isn’t going to let the pandemic get in the way of her work. Two collared dove chicks she names Dave and Daisy follow her home, and it isn’t long before she’s also caring for orphaned goldfinches, a concussed robin and even a mute swan, which crash-lands in a field next to Lorraine’s home and is transported straight back to its home on Loch Leven.

Season 2, Episode 02 –
The orphan season at the SSPCA Rescue Centre continues with the admission of a brood of tiny orphaned squirrels. With bald skins and closed eyes, they are among the smallest that have ever been admitted to the centre. It’s down to wildlife assistant Juanita to take on the job of rearing them by hand, but there is help from April, the acting head of large mammals. Juanita names them after birds, and soon, Goose, Puffin, Noddy, Dodo and co are off on their rewilding journey at the centre.

Meanwhile, in the sea-bird area, the team are dealing with a pair of feisty young characters - Noodles and Big Mac are a pair of orphaned gannets full of ‘teenage’ attitude. However, that doesn’t phase their carers, Gaby and Kaniz, who are determined to get them back to the wil.
